Be A Man ft. D. Wyte

from Burn The Crown EP by We Are Kyngz

about

Being a man - of any color or ethnicity - is a difficult task. There is a constant inner struggle. Forever in turmoil and usually unable to express the pain. Most often referred to as a rock - a solid object, we too become hardened. [The World's] expectations of us are nearly impossible and rarely celebrated. Even if we exceed such expectations, it is recognized as something we are supposed to do. As of late, there have been attempts to shift this standard, but there is a ways to go.

We Are Kyngz x D. Wyte give a bit of perspective on what it takes to #BeAMan. Available as a FREE download, August 31st.

lyrics

Be A Man
Verse 1: (Kyng Byzz)
So what the world’s beatin' you down boy toughin' up,
No tears ‘round here,
You better suck’em up,
That’s what society taught us,
So in return we burn with no concern,
Because we know nobody really got us,
And these beers it’ll sober up the pain,
Held so many tears inside feel the saltwater in my veins,
You a man right? Well you’ll be alright,
Long as your gear tight, bad chick hips right,
It gets worse and we pray it gets better,
But you don’t know man ‘til you read his suicide letter,
That reads, “Dear Geppetto, I’m cutting away the strings,
And these bullets and these pills only way to take away the pain,”
I’m never in the picture I took me out the frame,
So many negatives this shit just ain’t been the same,
P.S., tell me son cry let it out,
Only one rule when you cry know what you’re crying ‘bout

Chorus: (D.Wyte)
Can anybody feel my pain,
can anybody see me crying,
can anybody feel my pain,
‘cause I can’t,
‘cause I can’t

Verse 2: (Kyng Gran)
Wipe them tears off ya face boy,
you know you ain’t supposed to show emotion,
men have to have an outer shell,
like an oyster that was found deep in the ocean,
don’t let them people see you weep,
tears get mistaken for a symptom of you being weak,
it’s real out here,
feelings make you pussy,
don’t nobody wanna talk until you popping out they bushes,
it’s a reason why the young black male so aggressive,
it’s not because they punk ass daddy up and left’em,
it’s expected that we walk around with alligator skin,
an inverted hurricane the disaster is within,
women say they want a sensitive guy,
but say you too nice when you show ya sensitive side,
it’s a complicated journey you could never understand,
what it takes to be a man, I’m saying

Chorus:
Can anybody feel my pain,
can anybody see me crying,
can anybody feel my pain,
‘cause I can’t,
‘cause I can’t
